“Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see”

Timothy S. Thomas is a 48 year old photographer, known photographically, for his eye in composition, mastery of complicated dance lighting scenarios, and mature aesthetic judgment. He has an unrivaled ability to evoke the extraordinary from the ordinary. Prior to his career as a photographer, Tim Thomas was  a 20 year veteran pilot for American Airlines. Even more interestingly Tim Thomas was a corporate jet Captain for Aerosmith, Steven Spielberg, Nicolas Cage, and Harrison Ford.

In the early and mid 1980’s Tim Thomas toured the United States and Canada as a stage hand, and professional musician.  He did studio demo projects in Nashville, Tn, as a percussionist.   He has a Bachelor of Arts, Interdisciplinary degree in Communication, Psychology, and Theology. He utilizes his musical artistry and knowledge of human emotion, to meld music and visual images into powerful, large screen, state-of-the-art multi-media metaphors at large business conferences that stimulate and inspire at the most profound level.

During the last two decades, Mr. Thomas has traveled into 45 countries throughout the world, including Russia, France, Germany, Korea, Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Columbia, Great Britain, South Africa, East Africa, Israel, Spain, photographing nature, fashion, dance, aviation, and large business conventions. During 2007-2009, Tim Thomas was appointed Director of Photography for the American Airlines CR Smith Museum, in Ft Worth, TX.

In May of 2011, Tim Thomas completed a photographic inquiry of the Tango. The project spanned nearly ten years, and includes a data base of nearly thirteen thousand tango images of the world’s most beloved and famous performers (Dancing with the Stars 2009 Champions, and later, World Champion Artists: Leonardo Barrio Nuevo and Miriam Larici) The fevered response of so many people through out the world, to this dance indicates the presence of a deep mystery worthy of attention. In his exhaustive inquiry, Tim Thomas plumbs the depths of body language spoken in the dance.

Tim Thomas effectively draws our attention to these fine art Tango images as robust metaphors observing a symphony of opposites in unison; while providing a context for understanding the parts. Male verses female, light verses shadow, submission verses dominance, broken verses whole, soft verses hard, and separation verses union, etc.. Each visually demonstrated component provides context and meaning for the counterpart. Pain is fully understood in the context of relief. Shadows are impossible without light; and joy is fully experienced by one who has known grief.

This exhibition observes polarities, recognizes the necessity of them, and makes sense of them in real to life constructs of human relationship. In sum, it is a matter of observing, respecting, naming, and embracing these opposing forces, and employing the resultant energies in a balanced fashion to propel us poetically across the dance floor of our lives. These unrivaled, world class, limited edition (5) 30”x40” (101cm x 76cm) black and white photographs, are dry pressure mounted at 5000 psi onto 1/8th inch masonite, and protected by a coat fine linen texture.
